Tyro Connect
Tyro Connect is a service that sits between your POS and the apps you use with it. If your POS is on Tyro Connect, Tip Sheet reads your sales from it. Sales, card tips and service charges land against the right service within minutes, so tips can be shared out on the day rather than the next morning.
At a glance
| What it's for | Sales and card tips from your POS |
| How you connect | Tip Sheet support sets it up for you |
| How often it updates | As it happens — usually within minutes |
| You will need | Your Tyro Connect location ID (it starts with tc-), which Tyro or your POS provider gives you. If one Tyro Connect location covers two Tip Sheet venues, you also need the register IDs for each venue |
Only Tip Sheet staff can save the location ID and the register filter. You can open the settings and read them, but the boxes are greyed out — there is no button for you to press. Contact Tip Sheet support to connect a venue, or to change its location ID or filter. Support also arranges Tip Sheet's access to your location with Tyro, so there is nothing for you to approve there either.
Import Data and Disconnect you can do yourself, if you have permission to change integrations for the venue.
Tyro Connect or Tyro Reporting?
Two different Tyro products. A venue uses one or the other, never both.
| Tyro Connect | Tyro Reporting | |
|---|---|---|
| When sales appear | Within minutes, as they happen | Once a day — yesterday's takings, the next morning |
| Use it when | Your POS is connected to Tyro Connect | Your POS isn't on Tyro Connect, or the venue trades under more than one Tyro merchant ID |
| What you enter | Nothing — Tip Sheet support sets it up | Your Tyro reporting username and password |
Tyro Connect also brings across your POS's own order detail, including surcharges and discounts. Tyro Reporting is the only one of the two that covers a venue trading under several merchant IDs.
A venue can have only one POS connected at a time. If Tyro Reporting or another POS is already connected, the Tyro Connect card is greyed out. Disconnect the other one first.
What comes across
- Sales — the sale total, the tip, your POS's own sale reference, and the register it was rung up on. Each sale is dated and put against whichever service was running when it was opened, using the venue's timezone.
- Card payments — one for each payment on the sale, with the payment method, the Tyro reference, the terminal, the amount and the tip.
- Surcharges — kept as service charges on the sale. If the venue uses automatic service charges and the surcharge description matches one you've set up, the tip-eligible part counts towards that sale's service charge total.
- Discounts — recorded so they show in reports, never treated as tips.
- Cash out — recorded against the payment it was taken on. It doesn't count as sales or tips.
Ordinary and combination payments come across as they are. Refunds come across as negative sales and negative tips. Voided payments are ignored.
Staff, timesheets and rosters don't come from Tyro — those come from your timesheet integration.
Before you start
- Your POS must already be on Tyro Connect, with a Tyro Connect location set up for the venue. Tyro or your POS provider gives you the location ID.
- The venue's services and timezone must be set up in Tip Sheet first. The service a sale belongs to is worked out from the time it was opened, so without them sales land in the wrong place.
- The venue must not have another POS connected.
Connecting it
Tip Sheet support connects it for you. Send them the venue name and its Tyro Connect location ID — and, if one location covers two of your venues, the register IDs for each.
To see the settings, go to the admin view, open Venues, choose the venue, then Integrations. Find the Tyro Connect card and open the Tyro Configuration box. Location ID and Filter by Terminal are both shown, but read-only.
Once support saves it, the card shows Connected, with Manage, Import Data and Disconnect on its menu.
Sales opened at that location from then on arrive on their own. Nothing to schedule, nothing to run.
Tip Sheet works out which venue a sale belongs to purely from the location ID. If it's wrong by one character, every sale is thrown away and nothing at all appears — and the card still says Connected, so nothing warns you. If a newly connected venue is getting no sales, have support check this first.
Choose what's included
Everything at the location comes across. The one thing you can narrow is which registers count.
Filter by Terminal holds a list of register IDs. Leave it empty and every sale from the location comes in; list registers and only their sales are kept. Tip Sheet support sets this for you.
Despite the label, these are matched against the register ID Tyro sends with the sale — not the register's name, and not the card terminal's ID. The register name is what you see later in the Terminal column against an order, so names are not reliable here. Ask Tip Sheet support to read the right IDs off your recent sales.
A new filter applies to sales from that point on. To apply it to sales already in Tip Sheet, run Import Data for the period once support has changed it — the re-import replaces what was there and drops anything the new filter leaves out.
One location, two venues. If a single Tyro Connect location covers two Tip Sheet venues, support connects both with the same location ID and gives each one a filter listing only its own registers. Every sale is offered to both venues, and each keeps only the ones its filter allows.
Keeping it running
Day to day. Nothing to run. Every new, changed, closed and reopened sale comes across on its own, and tips are worked out again for the dates affected. A sale can be updated several times before it settles — the latest version replaces what's stored, so nothing doubles up.
Reopened sales. Reopening a sale creates a new one in Tyro that replaces the original. Tip Sheet drops the original and keeps only the reopened sale, so it's never counted twice.
Filling in a gap. Choose Import Data on the connected card. It brings in the last two pay periods — use it after a spell where the venue was disconnected, or after the filter changed. It runs in the background; watch its progress at the bottom left and in the notifications bell. Running it again is safe: sales already there are replaced, not duplicated. Anything older than two pay periods needs Tip Sheet support.
Disconnecting. Disconnect switches it off, and it's recorded in the venue's audit trail. Nothing already imported is touched, so past tip sheets and reports don't change. From then on Tip Sheet ignores every sale from the location, and they aren't picked up later on their own.
Reconnecting. Support reconnects with the same location ID and your settings come back as they were. Sales from the period it was off don't arrive by themselves — run Import Data.
If something looks wrong
| What you see | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Card says Connected, but no sales ever appear | The location ID doesn't match what Tyro sends, or Tip Sheet hasn't been given access to that location on Tyro's side | Ask support to check the location ID against a recent sale, and that Tyro is sending for it |
| Some registers appear, others never do | A register filter is set and those registers aren't in it | Open Manage and check the filter. It matches register IDs, not names |
| Sales appear, but on the wrong date or service | The venue's services or timezone don't cover the time the sale was opened | Fix the services and timezone, then run Import Data for the period |
| Older sales missing after reconnecting | Sales only arrive live; nothing is filled in automatically | Run Import Data. It reaches back two pay periods — older needs support |
| Tips look doubled on a reopened order | Both the original and the reopened sale were stored | Run Import Data for that period. It keeps only the reopened one |
| Connect is greyed out | Another POS is connected, or you can't change integrations for this venue | Disconnect the other POS first, or ask a business owner or Tip Sheet support |
| The Location ID and filter boxes won't let you type | Only Tip Sheet staff can change these | Contact support with the location ID or filter you need set |
