Tip Sheet Assistant
The Tip Sheet Assistant is a helper built into Tip Sheet. You ask it something in your own words, such as why did Sam get nothing on Tuesday? or how do I add someone to this week?, and it answers, shows you where to go, or makes the change for you once you've said yes.
Tip Sheet is switching the assistant on person by person while it's in beta. If you don't see it, it isn't on for you yet. It can make mistakes, so check figures on the screen itself before you rely on them, especially before paying anyone.
Open it
Select the round button at the bottom right of any screen (point at it and it says Tip Sheet Assistant). A panel opens on the right. On a wide screen the page moves over to make room, so you can keep working beside it.
Type your question in the box at the foot (Ask about tips, staff, pay runs…) and choose Send, or pick one of the suggested questions. Some answers end with buttons: one asks your next question for you, another opens the screen it's talking about.
The buttons at the top of the panel:
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Past chats | Your earlier chats in this business. Open one to carry on, or delete it. |
| New chat | Starts again with a clean slate. |
| Close | Puts the panel away. Your chat is still there next time. |
| The Beta tag | Shows what to keep in mind while it's in beta. |
Under each answer, a thumbs up or thumbs down tells Tip Sheet whether it helped. A thumbs down asks What went wrong?; telling it is optional.
The assistant isn't on the pages staff open from an email, such as their payout report or bank details link.
What it can do
Answer questions. It answers from this help centre, and links you to the page it used so you can read more.
Show you around. It can open a screen for you, with the right venue and week chosen. Or it can walk you through a job step by step: a ring appears round the button to press, with a short note beside it. Where a step needs a menu, a tab, an editing form or a box open, it can open it for you. Choose Next to move on, or Stop showing me to finish. It never saves or accepts anything in those steps; that's always your click.
Check your data. It can look at your tip sheets, Tip Collection, staff, settings and pay runs to work out what's going on, such as why someone earned $0 or why a week won't lock. It sees only what you can see: the venues you have access to, and what your role lets you look at.
Make a change, once you say yes. For some jobs it offers to make the change itself, such as setting up new starters, entering cash tips, placing a card tip in a service, correcting someone's hours on a day, changing department shares or inviting a user. It shows you a card first:
- what will change, with the old value crossed out beside the new one;
- what that means, such as which weeks are worked out again;
- anything that would stop it.
Nothing happens until you choose the button on the card, which names the change (for example Set up or Change). Cancel leaves everything as it was. If you ask something else instead, the card expires and says Expired. Nothing was changed. It can only do what your role allows, exactly as if you'd made the change on the screen yourself.
Pass a question to support. If it can't help, it can write a message to Tip Sheet support for you. You see the message first, then choose Send to support (support replies to your email address), Open in my email to send it yourself, or Not now.
What it never does
- It never moves money. Downloading a bank file, pushing tips to Tanda or Humanforce, and locking, paying or emailing a pay run are always done by you. It can show you the way.
- It never presses a button for you on a confirmation, a card or a form. Every change it makes is one you've seen on a card and accepted.
- It never goes beyond your own access. It can't see a venue you haven't been given, or make a change your role doesn't allow.
- It doesn't connect or disconnect integrations, create or archive venues, switch a venue between daily and weekly, or change anyone's access other than sending an invite. It shows you where to do those yourself.
Seeing what it changed
Every change made through the assistant is recorded on the Audit Trails page like any other, under your name in By, because you accepted it. The Via column shows a Tip Sheet Assistant tag on those entries. To see only them, set Via to Tip Sheet Assistant in Filters. See Via: how a change was made.
Your chats
- Chats are kept and reviewed. To improve the assistant, Tip Sheet keeps a record of each chat, how it went and any errors, and reviews them.
- Past chats lists your chats for 90 days. Deleting a chat removes it from your list, but Tip Sheet keeps its record for up to 90 days.
- A chat belongs to one business. If you switch business, your chat is put away and that business's own chats appear. Switch back and it returns.
- If you open Tip Sheet in a second browser tab, the same chat carries on there.
Don't type anything into a chat that you wouldn't put in an email to Tip Sheet support, such as a password or a full bank account number. The assistant never needs them.
