Setting up venues
Each venue needs to be created and set up before its first tip sheet is right. Work through these steps in order. Each one depends on the one before it.
All of this is in the admin view. Open Venues (see The venues list), choose the venue, and use the tabs across the top: Venue Profile, Integrations, Tip Rules, Venue Timings (frontline venues only) and Customise Payout Email. Every setting is felt in the venue view, on the Tip Collection and tip sheet screens.
1. Frontline or dependent?
Every venue is either frontline, where customers pay and tip, or dependent, which receives a share of other venues' tips: a shared kitchen, head office staff, or a house pool. The choice can't be changed later. See Frontline and dependent venues.
2. Create the venue
Choose Add Venue on the venues list. See Create a venue.
3. Venue profile
Who the venue is and how it pays tips: its name, logo, address and timezone, and whether a bank file pays its staff. The timezone decides which day a late-night tip belongs to, so check it before anything else.
4. Tip rules and timings
This is where the fairness of the tip sheet is decided. Tip Rules holds the departments and their share of the pool, how often tips are worked out, tip points, the waiting room for new starters, and what happens to service charges. Venue Timings holds when each service runs, which hours earn tips, and custom hours for holidays and events.
5. Integrations
Connect the venue's timesheet system and its POS. This comes after tip rules on purpose: which locations, areas and terminals you connect depends on how the venue and its departments are set up, and staff arriving from your timesheet system are placed into the departments you have already created.
6. Payout email
Decide what staff see when they are paid: which figures appear on their payout report, and what the email around it says.
Setting up a dependent venue?
The same steps apply, with fewer of them. A dependent venue has no POS and no Venue Timings tab, and its Tip Rules are about the share it receives rather than tips it collects. See Dependent venue settings.
