Service charges and surcharges
Some venues add a charge to the bill, such as a 10% weekend or public holiday surcharge, and pass some or all of it to staff. Tip Sheet calls these service charges. They only appear in Tip Collection once the venue is set up to have one. Until then, there's no Service Charges tab and no Service charges row on the Cash Tips tab.
Switching them on
It's a venue setting, in the admin view: the venue's Tip Rules tab → Tip Allocation → Does the venue have a service charge? Choose whether the charges come from the POS (Automatic) or are entered by hand (Manual). See Tip Rules.
What you then see in Tip Collection depends on that choice.
| The venue's setting | What appears in Tip Collection |
|---|---|
| No service charge | Nothing extra. |
| Automatic, from the POS | The charge on each order in the Svc charge column, included in the POS Tips total. A Service charges row on the Cash Tips tab, and a Service charges row in the Summary. Nothing to enter. |
| Manual | A Service Charges tab where you enter the amounts, a Service charges row on the Cash Tips tab, and a Service charges row in the Summary. |
With Automatic, the setting lists each charge by the exact name your POS gives it, and how much of it goes to staff: all of it, all of it less GST, or a percentage you choose.
Enter service charges by hand
At a venue set to Manual, open Tip Collection and choose the Service Charges tab.
1. Choose Service Charges2. Type, then press EnterThe card, Service charges by day, works exactly like cash tips: click a box, type, and press Enter or click away to save. What you type replaces the amount, 0 removes it, and nothing can change once the week is locked or paid. There's a box for each service or one for each day, following the venue's cash tips setting.
Entering service charges uses the same permission as cash tips: Can enter and edit cash tips collected.
If your bills carry a surcharge but Tip Collection shows none, the venue is probably set to No service charge, or, with Automatic, the charge's name in the setting doesn't match the POS exactly. Ask whoever manages venue settings to check.
