Dependent venue settings

A dependent venue doesn't collect tips, so it has no Venue Timings tab, and its Tip Rules tab has no tip allocation. Open Venues in the admin view, choose the venue, then Tip Rules. The sections are:

SectionWhat it decides
DepartmentsHow the venue's share is split between its departments.
Tip CollectionsWhich frontline venues it takes a share from, and how much.
Tip CalculationsDays or hours. Only for a venue with a timesheet system.
Staff SettingsTip points, and the waiting room or the multiplier.
The Tip Rules tab of Shared Services, a dependent venue: Departments, Tip Collections taking a percentage from four venues, Tip Calculations weekly in hours, and Staff SettingsEach section has its own Edit

As at a frontline venue, each section has its own Edit, with Cancel and Save at its foot (see Changing a section). Saving recalculates the weeks in progress at this venue and at every frontline venue it takes a share from.

Departments

Works as at a frontline venue: a Name, an Abbr of up to three letters and a Share of pool, adding up to 100%. A department with nobody working passes its share to the others. See Departments.

Tip Collections

How does this venue take its share?

  • A percentage: a share of each day's tips at the frontline venues it draws from.
  • A dollar amount: a fixed amount each pay period from each frontline venue, spread across the days in proportion to what each day took.

Then, under From which frontline venues, tick each venue it takes from and type its share. At least one is needed.

Tip Collections being edited: A percentage chosen, and four of seven frontline venues ticked with 2.5% or 5% each1. Tick the venue2. Its share
Changing the type clears the list

Switching between A percentage and A dollar amount unticks every venue and clears every figure. Note them down first.

More than 100%

Nothing stops several dependent venues together taking more than 100% of one frontline venue's tips. If their shares ever add up to more than the frontline venue collected, each share is scaled down so the frontline venue never goes below zero, which is rarely what anyone intended. Keep the total sensible.

Tip Calculations

Only for a venue with a timesheet system. The tag beside Tips are worked out shows Daily or Weekly. That was set when the venue was created and can't be changed.

Do you want to use days or hours to calculate entitlement to tips?

  • Days: each day worked counts once, if it reaches the minimum hours. Under The fewest hours that make a day, choose No minimum hours or Set minimum hours to.
  • Hours: every hour worked counts. Cap the hours that count in a day (or a week, for a weekly venue) with Set maximum hours to, or choose No maximum hours.

Tip Calculations being edited: Hours chosen, with Set maximum hours to 38 h

Meal breaks recorded in your timesheet system are always taken off here.

Staff Settings

  • Tip points: the Minimum, Maximum and Increment, as at a frontline venue.
  • Activate Waiting Room, for a venue with a timesheet system. New starters wait on the Incoming tab for the Number of days to wait. See Staff Settings.
  • Multiplier, for a venue without a timesheet system. With no hours to go on, each person's share comes from their tip points. Switch Multiplier on, give it a Name (such as Shifts or Days) and a Lowest value and Highest value. Each person's value, set on their staff record, is then multiplied by their tip points. Switching it on or off recalculates the week.

Staff Settings at a venue with no timesheet system: tip points 0 to 1, and Multiplier on, named Days, from 0 to 5

Permission

Every section needs permission to manage tip allocation settings for the venue, and Departments and Staff Settings need their own permission as well. If Edit is missing or Save is refused, a business admin can make the change.
