Venue Timings

Open Venues in the admin view, choose a frontline venue, then the Venue Timings tab. It has two sections:

  • Default Timings: when each service runs, so a card tip lands in the right one, and which hours worked during it earn a share. This page.
  • Custom Hours: days that run differently, such as a public holiday or an event. See Custom Hours.

Dependent venues don't collect tips, so they have no Venue Timings tab.

The bar across the top draws the day: each service as a box, the hours that earn as a green line, and a cut-off as an orange mark.

Default Timings

The table lists each Service period with when it Starts and Ends, and a line of Tip earning rules. To change them, choose Edit, then Save at the foot of the section, or Cancel to leave them as they were.

Saving recalculates the weeks that are still in progress. Locked and paid weeks keep their figures.

Service periods

A name, a start and an end. A card payment made between the start and end lands in that service's pool. A service can run past midnight; Ends the next day shows under its end time when it does.

New venues start with Lunch and Dinner. Choose Add service period for another; a single all-day service is fine for a venue that doesn't split the day. You can also drag on the day bar while editing: across an empty stretch to add a service, a service to move it, or an edge to change it.

To delete a service period, choose the bin at the end of its row. Undo puts it back until you save, and Tip Sheet asks you first. Weeks in progress are worked out again without it; locked weeks keep their figures.

Tip earning hours

Choose a service's Tip earning rules to open them under its row. Only hours worked between the Start and End count towards that service's tips, so you can leave out the set-up hour before lunch or the clean-down after close.

SettingWhat it doesExample
Cut offAnyone whose shift starts at or after this time earns nothing from this service. Leave it on None for no cut-off.Lunch earns 12 pm to 5 pm with a 3:30 pm cut-off: someone starting at 4 pm gets no lunch tips, even though they work until 5.
Min hoursThe hours someone must work in this service to earn from it. Once they reach it, every hour they worked in the service counts.Min 2 hours: a 90-minute cover earns nothing; a 2-hour shift earns 2 hours' worth.
Max hoursThe most hours anyone is credited with for this service.Max 6: a 9-hour shift counts as 6.
Ignore tip pointsThis service is split by hours alone, as if everyone had the same tip points.A breakfast service where seniority shouldn't matter.
Ignore breaksBreaks count as hours worked, as if none was taken.A service where staff eat on the floor and stay on.
About breaks

Only meal breaks from your timesheet system are ever taken off the hours. Other kinds of break are left in. With Ignore breaks ticked, nothing is taken off at all.

How Custom Hours fit in

Default Timings apply every day. A Custom Hours event, set further down the same tab, replaces them on its own days: its own service periods and tip earning rules, for up to 7 days at a time. Every other day keeps the defaults. On the tip sheet, those days show a Custom hours tag in the colour you chose.

Shifts that earn nothing

A shift earns no tips from a service when it is still unapproved in your timesheet system, when it starts at or after the cut-off, when it falls short of the minimum hours, or when it is marked as leave. The daily tip sheet shows the hours that counted, so the reason is usually visible there.

Permission

Changing this tab needs permission to manage service periods and tip earning hours for the venue. Without it, the tab can be read but has no Edit.
